Frequently Asked Questions
Does it work with all microchip brands?
Yes — the RFID reader is compatible with ISO 11784/11785 standard microchips (FDX-B, HDX), which covers virtually all chips implanted in the US, Canada, UK, EU, and Australia. This includes HomeAgain, Avid, PetLink, 24PetWatch, and Found Animals chips. If you're unsure, bring your pet near the door during setup — the reader will detect and register any standard chip.
What if my pet isn't microchipped?
The Portal includes an RFID collar tag that attaches to any collar. You register the tag during setup and it works identically to a microchip. This is also useful for households that want to grant access to a non-microchipped pet or a pet sitter's animal.
How long do the batteries last?
Approximately 6 months with typical use (20-30 entries per day). The app sends a low-battery notification at 15% remaining. The door retains all settings and registered pets during battery changes.
